H20 is a substance essential to survival of all earthly life form. Whether you are a coconut tree, an amoeba, or a resident of Amsterdam, you need water to function on this spectacular planet. I wish this not be a forum for discussion of the unfortunate regions of the world lacking useful water or our relative luxury of potable water at our Amsterdam fingertips. I would, however, like to bring to you my opinions regarding local restaurants, their quality and, of course, their approach to providing patrons with water.
In my opinion, when purchasing a meal at a restaurant, especially those as typically expensive as in Amsterdam, water should be FREE! However, to my dissatisfaction, this is not typically the case (not in Amsterdam).
Hence the idea for this blog arose: what is the relationship between quality of the meal and availability and cost of water, and whether I agree that this relationship is worth a return trip to the eatery. Read on! And please, if you have any comments, share! I’d love to know what you think.
Rating Criteria
Any restaurant can gather up to 10 points (score weights noted in the parentheses)
Water (0.20) – is water available? free? limited? are the water costs worth the rest of the experience? Taste (0.25) – this is the most important aspect, regardless of the water factor. I aim to always be objective, and although I’m not a culinary expert, I can tell tasty and offensive apart. Here you will get no frills review, sans flowery and superfluous descriptions Service (0.15) – focus is on personality and timeliness (nice/rude, silent/too talkative, timely/too slow, etc) Presentation (0.10) – can make a difference in the dining experience, when unique and innovative, however it’s not the most important aspect and thus, a long with the rest of the criteria, it receives a lower weighing Location (0.10) – proximity and neighborhood Interior (0.10) – general appeal and cleanliness Expense, excluding water (0.10) – focus on the over all cost-quality-water relationship: overpriced, luxury on a budget, or just right?
